Welcome to New Council Members
We’re looking forward to seeing Dear New Member,
Congratulations on your appointment to the Alumni Council of The Johns Hopkins Alumni Association, representing all nine Divisions of our University, which serves as the governing body of the JHAA. As the leadership of the JHAA, we are charged with creating engagement that builds lifelong relationships among alumni as well as between the University and its alumni.
Here are some resources that will give you a better sense of our work:
- A veteran member of the council will serve as your mentor and contact you soon to help answer questions you may have. We encourage you to connect with your mentor prior to Leadership Weekend in October.
- A luncheon and overview for new members, their mentors and the officers will be held on October 12 at the Johns Hopkins Club in Baltimore.
- The attached PowerPoint will assist in orienting you to the Alumni Council.
- A Q&A session/teleconference with officers of the Alumni Council.
- We have a secure forum for the Alumni Council through Alumni Services. If you have never registered for an account with Alumni Services, you will need to register as a first-time user at https://alumni.jhu.edu/login. You will need your JHED ID and Alumni ID to register. If you do not know that information please contact kevin.krause@jhu.edu, gharley2@jhu.edu, or the Alumni Relations Office at 410-516-0363 for that information.
- After you register, you will receive an email from Johns Hopkins with your username (your JHED ID) and a link to setup a password. Once the password has been successfully setup you can login and access the Alumni Council Portal. Please familiarize yourself with these pages, scan the bylaws, and read about the standing committees.
I encourage you to take an active role in sharing your expertise, talent, and vision as we continue to build an active alumni community that is aware, engaged, and committed to the mission of Johns Hopkins University and its graduates.
You will soon receive a formal invitation to the Alumni Council Leadership Weekend and Annual Meeting on October 12 – 13. Your term on the Council officially begins that weekend and I personally urge you to attend and participate in our discussions. The Alumni Council sponsors all meals and activities during meetings. Travel and accommodations will be at your expense.
While I know that you have great expectations as to your contributions to the Alumni Council, I want you to know that I share in these expectations. The coming years will be eventful, exciting, and stimulating and I know that you will play a major role in our future success.
I look forward to seeing all of you in October and having the opportunity to work with you on Alumni Association affairs. While I find clichés trite, I have received back far more than I have given to the Alumni Council and know that you will have the same experience.
If you have any questions about the Alumni Council, please feel free to contact either Marguerite Jones, Senior Director of Alumni Services, at 410-516-6329 or ingalls@jhu.edu or me at JHAA_President@jhu.edu.
With your help, we will make a significant mark on the future of our University.
Sincerely,
David
