Entrepreneurship Affinity Gathering

Entrepreneurship Affinity Gathering
November 7, 2013

On November 7th we had a meeting of the minds.  Several members from the burgeoning Bay Area Hopkins Entrepreneurship Affinity Group connected with visiting Johns Hopkins Carey Business School students visiting Bay Area companies with Hopkins ties.  The Entrepreneurship Affinity group is developing connections between investors, seasoned entrepreneurs—on to their second company or laying the ground work for their next big idea—to critical service providers, connection makers and folks that are considering becoming entrepreneurs but haven’t yet made the leap.  The timing of the Affinity event aligned with the visit of about a dozen MBA and MBA/MPH students from Hopkins who learned first-hand how critical relationships are to building startups and how it really takes an eco-system to make a successful startup.  They could have witnessed history in the making.  The Entrepreneurship Affinity Group has grown from about 8 people to about two dozen attending this event with well more than 60 people on the mailing list.  We continue to see the numbers climb with interest in future events and questions on how we can successfully link the unique skills and talents honed in Silicon Valley to the university.

For the students it was a chance to see how business relationships are formed and strengthened by a common connection in Hopkins and to make some contacts that could lead to potential internships or work opportunities as they advance in their education.  The response to the event was that it was resoundingly great as it provided an easy way to meet and build the community that is Hopkins.
