Take Control of your Financial Future

Did you know that...

  • Out of all college graduates in 2008, over 58% were women
  • Women are the sole or main breadwinners in nearly a third of US households
  • 90% of all women will be solely responsible for their finances at some point in their lives
Explore why you need a financial strategy and understanding of "who you are" financially". Learn how to gain a greater financial confidence about your family’s short and long term financial security, while managing your life changes, challenges and responsibilities. The discussion topics will range from planning for college tuition to considerations when starting your own business, making the right decisions now for your retirement, to taking care of aging parents and children (Sandwich Generation) while meeting your long term financial goals.

Session led by Monique Castillo (A&S '90)

A Conversation on Leadership

Join Patricia Browne, BUS ’07, ’10 and author Jackie Gaines for a “Conversation on Leadership”. This "Oprah Life Class”/“Lean In” style session will be an open forum and an opportunity to dig into and discuss the key issues facing women in leadership today. Hear two stories of leadership, change and success from our facilitators and join in the dialog—sharing and learning from the stories of the other Hopkins women in the room.

Jackie Gaines (BUS  '07, '10) as guest and Pat Browne as "host"

Who Are You Anyway?: Define and Communicate Your Value Proposition

Branding isn’t just for products or corporations any longer—the principles extend now to individuals. If you aren’t sure who you are, what value you bring to the table or if you simply can’t communicate it clearly and powerfully, you can’t expect others to know either. Our presenters will share their own fascinating, personal stories of re-branding and “reinvention” as well as share practical branding strategies and tips to help you craft and sell your own brand.

Session led by Cheri Wilson (SPH '10) & Craig Bambrough

The Lost Art of Communication: Leveraging Everything from Social Networking to Social Media

Have we lost the true art of communication or have the forms just evolved? From face-to-face interactions and emails to now Twitter and Facebook—what’s the best and smartest way to be heard? Professionally and personally, how do we leverage the advances within technology to fit our needs? The landscape has changed and various options for communicating exist. The art of communication provides many opportunities to not only develop business strategies in the workplace, but it can also help to enhance our own personal brands and build credibility amongst our peers and colleagues.
