Phil Green
AT SRI INTERNATIONAL (Formerly Stanford Research Institute)

Management -- Engaged in general laboratory management and contract-research business development, in the leadership and supervision of a broad spectrum of medical technology research and development projects, in strategic consulting, and in technology licensing.

Medical Ultrasound R&D -- Pioneered in the development of peripheral vascular and endoscopic ultrasound, ultrasound transmission imaging, and ultrasonic holography. Established a highly regarded medical ultrasound R&D group, with extensive grant and contract sponsorship from three of the National Institutes of Health (NCI, NIGMS, and NHLBI), the Department of Defense, and from many medical equipment manufacturers.

Surgical Technology R&D -- Invented, patented, prototyped and demonstrated a Telepresence Surgery System that made complex minimally invasive surgery as easy as conventional open surgery, leading to the commercialization of the very successful da Vinci "robotic" surgery system.

New Venture Creation -- Spearheaded the search for venture capital to commercialize the Telepresence Surgery System, culminating in the founding of Intuitive Surgical, Inc., manufacturer of the da Vinci. Played a pivotal role in the establishment of Communication Intelligence Corporation, which sells handwriting recognition products developed in his SRI laboratory.

Invention and Licensing -- Awarded over 45 U.S. patents in medical diagnostic and surgical technologies. Over $5 billion worth of products licensed under these patents have been sold. Aggressive pursuit of infringers resulted in eight favorable settlements and one major lawsuit judgment, altogether netting SRI $60 million.
