Joseph R. Molko, A&S '94
Joseph R. Molko is Senior Vice President, Content Distribution and Marketing at Viacom Media Networks, where he is responsible for overseeing approximately $2 billion in annual license fee revenue for Viacom’s television networks and properties, including MTV, Vh1, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Spike, TV Land and BET. His responsibilities include negotiating and structuring agreements for distribution of television programming services, as well as identifying new business opportunities and negotiating and structuring agreements for distribution of content on new platforms.
Prior to assuming his current role in early 2009, Mr. Molko served in a series of ascending roles as an attorney in the Business and Legal Affairs Department of MTV Networks (the predecessor to Viacom Media Networks). Mr. Molko served as the Vice President & Senior Counsel of the Content Distribution and Marketing Group, where he was one of two senior attorneys responsible for MTV Networks’ content distribution business. His responsibilities included negotiating and drafting content license agreements, as well as providing business development and strategic planning support for MTV Networks’ distribution business. Previous roles at MTV Networks included Counsel, Senior Counsel and Vice President of the Intellectual Property and Litigation Group.
Prior to joining MTV Networks, Mr. Molko was an Associate Attorney with Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu, P.C., a boutique law firm specializing in intellectual property law, an Associate Attorney with Simpson Thatcher & Bartlett, and a Law Clerk for The Honorable Kevin Thomas Duffy, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York.
Mr. Molko obtained his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where he was a Staff Member of the Fordham International Law Journal, a Teaching Assistant in the Legal Writing Program and recipient of the Corpus Juris Secondum Award, and his B.A., in Writing Seminars, from The Johns Hopkins University (‘94), where he received the Student Excellence Award for Leadership and Service and was Chairperson of the Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium.
Mr. Molko serves on the Board of Directors of the T. Howard Foundation for Diversity in Media, is a member of the Johns Hopkins University’s Second Decade Society Alumni Leadership Program, and holds memberships in various other professional and charitable organizations.
