Where was your favorite place to study?
Karma’s in Charles Village…delicious!! Little hole in the wall place with some delicious sandwiches!
Sometimes the library can be more distracting than helpful…can turn into quite the social hour.
Where should 2015s turn for professional advice?
In terms of major or pre-profesional advice, if you don’t like your career counselor/guidance counselor, switch! Request a switch at the career office and try until you find one that you like! Make use of the career office when you start to look for a job—they can help you find work-study jobs, and even help you with mock interviews.
Did you study abroad?
Yes—Barcelona! Amazing and great experience—would definitely recommend studying abroad!
Where is the best place to live on campus? Where should new students avoid?
- Freshman Year: Building B—great, really close to the gym if you’re on a sports team or like to work out!
- Sophomore year: Mccoy single within a suite- really liked that!
- Junior and Senior Year : Charles apts—they were okay, not great, but very close to campus.
What are the best campus traditions?
Spring Fair—Great food!
Homecoming—A ton of fun. It’s great to see your friends again after they have graduated! This is another great reason to join a fraternity/sorority.
Where is the best place to eat on campus?
I still miss FFC to this day… That said, I avoided the freshmen 15 by not eating everything at FFC at once! You eat their every day, so you don’t have to actually do the all you can eat thing! When you get sick of FFC, branch out and eat out!
What’s the best way to stay informed and up-to-date on activities and opportunities?
Talk to others!
What should someone do if they’re overwhelmed by something away at school?
1/4 of the students use counseling services, and students are more afraid to go than they should be. Counseling services are a great idea to help manage stress. An outside perspective when you’re away from home can always be helpful. Don’t be afraid to use them—it will be the only time when they’re free!
How to stay safe at school?
“Jungle juice” is never a good idea.
Drink things from closed cans. Don’t let someone give you any open drinks that you haven’t kept your eyes on the entire time!
I carried that whistle I got in freshman year all four years of college on my keys. I’m glad I never had to use it—it was probably disgusting!
Other thoughts, comments, tips?
Hopkins can be overwhelming and some can be yes, intense, but there are PLENTY of people who are positive and outgoing! You just have to make an effort!
Collegetown Shuttle is a great way to visit friends at Loyola!
