JOHNS HOPKINS NO. 15 IN 'TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION' WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS

Hopkins has consistently been ranked among the world's best universities by THE and was 13th overall last year. Out of 177 U.S. schools included in the rankings this year, Hopkins is No. 11, according to THE.

The University of Oxford tops this year's world rankings, followed by Harvard at No. 2, Cambridge and Stanford tied for third, and MIT fifth.

The Times Higher Education list, published each year since 2004, is among the world's most influential rankings of colleges and universities, which are judged based on 13 key performance indicators grouped into five thematic areas:

• Teaching, where Hopkins ranked No. 21, and which examines the reputation of the school's academic instruction as well as student-to-teacher ratios, the ratio of doctoral degrees to bachelor degrees awarded, the number of faculty who hold doctorates, and the income of academic staff.
• Research, where Hopkins ranked No. 15, and which analyzes the number of publications per staff member at an institution, the research income of the school, and the reputation of that research.
• Citations, where Hopkins ranked No. 60, and which examines the school's research influence.
• Industry Income, where Hopkins ranked No. 73, and which measures knowledge transfer by quantifying the income generated by research partnerships with private industries.
• International Outlook, where Hopkins ranked No. 266, and which weighs the percentage of international staff, students, and co-authorship to determine a school's ability to attract students, faculty, and staff from around the world.

Last month Hopkins was ranked No. 7 among national universities in the annual undergraduate rankings published by U.S. News & World Report.
