SAIS New York Alumni Fireside Chat with Professor Riordan Roett

Start Date
End Date

This year will see presidential elections in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico; the Summit of the Americas; and the first-ever G20 summit in South America. It also is witnessing the retirement of Professor Riordan Roett, director of the Latin American Studies Program. Join Roett at his final official alumni gathering, where he will discuss changes he has observed through the years and offer insights into the future of this dynamic region. During his 45 years as a leading scholar of Latin American politics and economics, Riordan forged personal friendships with presidents and foreign ministers, claiming a front-row seat to the region’s dramatic ups and downs, from debt crises to commodity booms, from socialist experiments to neoliberal swings, from dictatorships to democratic transitions. Light refreshments will served from 6 to 6:45 p.m., with remarks immediately following.
