NJ Boardwalk and Biergarten
Hopkins Affinity: Outdoor Explorations
Join fellow alumni, parents, and friends of JHU to celebrate the first day of Oktoberfest at Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten followed by a moderate stroll on the boardwalk thru 6 towns (about 6 miles) ending back at the Spring Lake train station.
Participants will meet at the Spring Lake train station in Spring Lake, NJ (parking is free on weekends)
Guest should plan to arrive before 11:30 to give themselves time to purchase a one way ticket (not-included) (2.25/adult or 1.05 senior/child) to Asbury Park. The train leaves at 11:34 and arrives at Asbury Park at 11:45 with a short walk to the restaurant where we will enjoy a family style meal including Bavarian Pretzel, Potato Pancakes, Fish & Chips, Sliced Bratwurst, & Festhalle salad. $20 registration fee covers lunch, soft drinks, tax & tip. Beer can be purchased separately.
After lunch, we will take a moderate stroll along the boardwalk passing thru 6 towns ending up at the Spring Lake train station where you parked your car at the beginning of this event.
Itinerary:
11:34a Depart from Spring Lake Train Station
11:45a Arrive in Asbury Park
12:00p Lunch + Meet and Greet (Pre-reception at Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten)
1:30p Depart biergarten to begin boardwalk walking tour
4:30p Finish tour back at Spring Lake Train Station
Transport & Parking:
In addition to driving to the event as described above, this event is also easily accessible by train to all those who are near a NJ Transit station on the North Coast Line which originates from Penn Station in NYC. Guests coming by train can go directly to the Asbury Park train station and walk three blocks to the restaurant. You would buy one way ticket to Asbury Park and return ticket from Spring Lake. Anyone driving by car should go directly to the Spring Lake train station where parking is free as described above. There is no free parking in Asbury Park and it can get crowded on weekends.
