"Invisible Thread" - a new Broadway-bound musical SOLD OUT
Arts, Entertainment, Media and Entrepreneurship (AEME) Affinity
Invisible Thread is a two time Richard Rodgers Award winner, and a recipient of the Edgerton Foundation New American Plays Award. It was nominated for 10 awards after its production in Boston last year, then performed under the title Witness Uganda. It is directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (HAIR, Pippin, Finding Neverland). It has been featured in national news and press including The New York Times, CBS, NPR & The Huffington Post. Written by Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews, this is an excellent chance for you to see an up and coming new musical and to hear how a production comes to life and evolves to Broadway.
The story: Determined to find his place in the world, 20-something Griffin leaves his job and his New York City apartment to volunteer for a charity in Africa. But when his altruistic aspirations collide with the real world, his life is changed in unexpected and profound ways. Inspired by a true story, this rousing new musical infuses a world pop score with African beats in an electrifying journey of the young man whose life is changed when his altruisitic aspirations and real world realities collide.
Oliver Roth, A&S '12, has been working on the development of this show. This is good news for us - he has made special arrangements for creators Matt Gould, Griffin Matthews, and other "creatives" to participate in a post-show talk back to discuss the creative aspects and development of the show. This is truly what helps turn a great night at the theater into a fascinating JHU AEME Affinity event!
