LCDR Cyrus Shahpar, MD, MBA, MPH, A&S'96

Cyrus Shahpar is a medical epidemiologist and former Epidemic Intelligence Service officer with the Emergency Response and Recovery Branch at CDC.  He recently worked in Liberia, Atlanta, and Washington DC in a variety of roles for the Ebola response. At CDC he works with humanitarian organizations including UNHCR, UNICEF, WHO, and WFP in large emergencies in Haiti, Pakistan, the Philippines, Jordan, Kenya, and Ethiopia. His primary interest is in developing, implementing, and evaluating innovations in complex humanitarian emergencies.  Prior to joining CDC, he worked at Johns Hopkins University, UCSF, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health as a biostatistician, data management system manager, and researcher.  He received an undergraduate degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University and a graduate degree in epidemiology and biostatistics from UC Berkeley.  He then received medical and business degrees from UC Irvine, and completed emergency medicine training at Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was chief resident. He is also a practicing attending physician at Emory University Midtown Hospital.
