Salo is a conservation technology company working to scale the deployment of natural climate solutions—conservation, restoration, and improved land stewardship. We combine satellite imaging, deep learning, and ecological modeling to build software tools that help organizations identify conservation opportunities, monitor ecosystem health, and predict environmental change. Currently, we are close to launching the California Forest Observatory in partnership with the Moore Foundation among others. The California Forest Observatory is a data-driven forest monitoring system capable of mapping the drivers of wildfire behavior such as forest structure and fuels at the individual tree-scale. The system produces regularly updated, statewide data layers that will be made freely available to researchers, policymakers, and landowners for non-commercial use with the goal of improving California's capacity to assess current wildfire hazard and implement actions to reduce future catastrophic wildfire.
