Wei of Chocolate, THEshift

Savor the space between two thoughts.

That's the intention on which Wei of Chocolate is based.

CEO & Founder Lisa Reinhardt came to chocolate via a roundabout route that took her from small-town American roots to Paris to remote areas of Asia.

Along the way, she experienced deeply the benefits and joys of meditation, living in a cave, spending months in retreat and studying and practicing the wisdom traditions of Nepal, India and Tibet for 11 years.

“When I got back from Asia, all I wanted to do was share the incredible gift I had been given by the masters of meditation. I looked around, and I knew we needed what they knew. But when I brought up the idea of meditation, the reaction was almost always a “No” – “I’m too busy”, “I’m not good at it”, “I don’t know how to do it.”

Then one day I had an ‘aha’ moment eating chocolate. When we let chocolate melt in our mouths rather than chew it, we do exactly what we want to do when learning meditation, except that we actually do it better.  We rest fully, lovingly in the present moment. And nobody says, ‘I’m too busy, I’m not good at it, I don’t know how to do it’!

Wei of Chocolate was born in 2007.

“I knew that chocolate was the perfect way to give people a taste of meditation, but I was worried about the impact on health. Chocolate had a reputation of being bad for you – too sugary, makes you fat, bad for your skin – so how could I encourage people to e\at chocolate? Right around that time, the first studies came out suggesting that chocolate could be good for you. I dove into the research. The more I read, the more relieved I felt: there were fundamental choices we could make that would change everything.

“Our aim is to take something that people already do and elevate it. Introducing intentional blends of organic herbs and spices to beautiful dark chocolate already renowned for its health benefits - what could be better?"

The only thing better is Wei of Chocolate’s innovation – introducing Lotus Wei’s vibrational essences of flowers and gems to chocolate. Flower essences are without scent or flavor; they are energetic infusions, similar to homeopathy, that work on the subtle energetic system of the body through the acupuncture meridians. The results are gentle state-of-mind enhancing effects – more joy, peace, clarity and happiness.

It was natural to create Wei of Chocolate as organic, fair trade and vegan dark chocolate.

“I see chocolate as a permission slip for us to take meaningful breaks in our day that support wellness of body, mind and spirit.  All of us here have the intention of coming from a place of love and clarity, of advancing a bigger vision for the world. Yet I know for myself that it’s easy to get distracted, derailed or overwhelmed; everyone I know is either working too hard, or thinking too much.

“By using the chocolate as a trigger to put it all on pause for 2 minutes, we are able to rebalance body & mind and enjoy the deliciousness of the present moment. Taking meaningful breaks honors the natural rhythms of our bodies, allows us to access our insight more regularly and assists us in coming from that place of wisdom and vision that is so needed in the world right now.

“We are on the verge of a major shift in paradigm that calls on every one of us to be at our authentic best, and help others to do the same. We have already created some tools – with the chocolate and flower essences – and soon will begin offering programs with methods for living with more freedom and clarity.

“I’d like to be in touch with people who share this vision and want to catalyze those transformations first in themselves, and then others, so that we can play together to uncover our true potential.”

If you are one of those people, let us know here, and we’ll be in touch when the exciting programs begin.

Green Policy

Do the best you can, everyday, for everyone and the environment. That’s it.

That’s why we use organic chocolate, even though we don’t use the seal.  That’s why all our cocoa is ethically traded, even though others would be cheaper.  People have said that the more high quality chocolate we eat, the better, because the good stuff only grows under the canopy of the rainforests. If we create a high demand for this kind of chocolate, the farmers will not be tempted to clearcut the rainforests for other purposes.

We reduce, reuse, recycle everything we can.  The foil around the chocolate is recyclable. Our labels are made so the whole tube can go directly into recycling. The tubes are made of PET 1 plastic, the most recyclable plastic that can be made into a million more things. Our caps are PET 5, recyclable in Phoenix and most places.  There are certain constraints that the FDA imposes to meet their “food-safe” rules, so the rice paper bag has to be plastic lined, but we’re always looking for the next best way.

As someone once said, Let’s take good care of this planet - it’s the only one with chocolate!
