Dr. Joanna Zablotsky Kufel, SPH '03, '09 PhD, MPH

Joanna Zablotsky Kufel received her MPH in Environmental Health Sciences and Health Policy and Management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) in 2003 and her PhD from the JHSPH Department of Health Policy and Management in 2009. Dr. Zablotsky Kufel’s dissertation focused on the relationship between Maryland’s local environmental public health and food protection infrastructure and foodborne illness morbidity. After graduating, Dr. Zablotsky Kufel served as a Food Safety fellow in the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In that role, she helped develop performance measures for FSIS' strategic planning activities and evaluate the effectiveness of Agency policy. After her fellowship ended, Dr. Zablotsky Kufel continued at FSIS with her work on performance measurement and policy evaluation, and added a new initiative; working with federal food safety partners to advance foodborne illness attribution through the Interagency Food Safety Analytics Collaboration (IFSAC). |

Anna McCollister-Slipp Co-Founder

Anna McCollister-Slipp is the co-founder of Galileo Analytics, a Visual Data Exploration and advanced data analytics company focused on democratizing access to and understanding of complex health data.
Anna’s passion for improving health care research through innovation in health data analytics is rooted in her personal experiences living with type 1 diabetes for 28 years. Through her struggles with and triumphs over her disease, she has become acutely aware of the need for increased patient involvement in health care research, treatment and care.
In her professional and personal activities, Anna seeks to build platforms for better understanding of and engagement with the needs of patients. She speaks frequently about the need for innovation in medical device data and technology, promoting the use of standard data formats, device interoperability and patient-focused platforms aimed at empowering patients to better treat their disease and manage their health. In addition, Anna is a vocal advocate for improving methods for comparative effectiveness research and the development of more refined outcomes measures to better guide care and assess treatments. She was recently appointed to serve on the FDA/ONC HIT Policy Committee’s FDASIA Working Group, which will be charged with making recommendations to the National Coordinator for Health IT on a policy framework for the development and adoption of a nationwide health information infrastructure, including standards for the exchange of patient medical information. She is a member of the Food and Drug Administration’s advisory committee on General Hospital and Personal Use Medical Devices, which is charged with advising the agency on issues related to the approval and oversight of a range of medical devices, including those used to treat diabetes. Anna is a member of the advisory committee for the FDA’s MDEpiNet, a public/private partnership charged with identifying, evaluating, and implementing new methodological approaches for collecting and analyzing data to support medical device product safety surveillance and comparative effectiveness research. She has served as a patient advisor for the Center for Medical Technology Policy, providing diabetes patient perspectives on the need to develop patient-focused strategies for conducting comparative effectiveness research.
Prior to focusing on health care, Anna was the director of public affairs for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, where she was instrumental in expanding US surrogate broadcasting to the Middle East, marshaling Congressional and White House support for the creation of Radio Free Iraq and Radio Free Iran (Radio Farda), which continue to serve as vital sources of objective news and information for Iranians and Iraqis today. She formerly served as director of public affairs at the Cato Institute, a Washington, DC-based think tank. As a journalist, McCollister-Slipp worked for two years as a radio news anchor and reporter, and she has written for such publications as The New York Times and George Magazine.
In her free time, Anna is a passionate advocate for improving the quality of health care for animals. She is the author of www.pethealthadvocate.me, a blog dedicated to helping pet parents work closely with their vets to ensure the highest quality of care for their pets.

Scott Straub, BUS '08 Market Planner
LexisNexis Risk Solutions
Scott is the Market Planner for Federal Civilian Markets at LexisNexis Risk Solutions and is responsible for developing identity based solutions for governments in their fraud prevention and collections processes. Scott has invented several identity based products using LexisNexis’s vast public record database and holds patents in these products designed to assist governments in preventing fraud, reducing improper payments and collecting delinquent receivables. Scott has been a frequent speaker on a variety of topics since joining LexisNexis in 2011, including testifying on government debt collection best practices to the Legislature in the state of Louisiana and participated on a panel discussion regarding government efficiencies at the Democratic Governors Association. Prior to joining LexisNexis, Scott was employed at the Financial Management Service (FMS), a bureau of the US Treasury where he drafted strategic plans for multiple business unites, implemented industry best practices in the collection processes of delinquent debt owed to the federal government by creating an analytics division to streamline collections strategies through combining internal and external data and was a project manager on an internal control review project, whose outcomes were designed to prevent fraud against the government. Also, while at FMS he coauthored a feasibility study to repurpose a payment center to a debt collection center and worked with the Office of Management and Budget to pass several initiatives through Congress to maximize efficiencies in the debt collection process. Scott holds a masters in finance and a graduate certificate in investments from the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University.

Ann-Marie Simpson is a PMP certified Manager for the Federal Practice with Capgemini Government Solutions, LLC. She has extensive experience in business intelligence, data discovery, data visualization, and operational excellence for Federal government clients. Prior to joining Capgemini, Ms. Simpson worked as a consulting associate for Cambridge Associates, LLC. She holds a B.A. in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University.
