Alexandra Byer, A&S 2011 and Independent Feature Film Producer
Alexandra Byer graduated from JHU in 2011 with a degree from the Film & Media Studies program. Since leaving Hopkins she has been working as an independent feature film producer in New York City. She most recently coproduced Tim Sutton’s MEMPHIS, which was showcased at the 2013 Venice Film Festival with the support of the Biennale-College of Cinema and Gucci, and premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. Kino Lorber is distributing MEMPHIS in the U.S. Byer also co-produced STAND CLEAR OF THE CLOSING DOORS (dir. Sam Fleischner), which won the Special Jury Mention at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival and was distributed by Oscilloscope Laboratories. Byer has produced several short films and frequently works in production on commercials and music videos. She previously worked as a program coordinator and manager at the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP).
Currently Byer is in pre-production on Tim Sutton’s third feature film, currently untitled, which is slated to shoot in May 2015. She was also recently selected as a producer to participate in the 2015 Berlinale Talents program during the Berlinale International Film Festival. Additionally, Byer is also attached as a producer to Hopkins professor Matt Porterfield’s newest feature endeavor, SOLLER’S POINT. She worked on Porterfield’s PUTTY HILL and I USED TO BE DARKER, and is very excited to collaborate with him once again on this new film.
