The Berlin Johns Hopkins University SAIS Chapter welcomes fellow SAIS, BSPH and JHU alumni and friends to a Stammtisch with special guest JHU Staff Historian, Dr. Karen Thomas. Dr. Thomas' talk will focus on "Why family planning is central to global health: JHU and US contributions and Germany's future role" and will be followed by group discussion. The event will take place at Scotch & Sofa. Free to register for the event. Each attendee will be responsible for their own food and beverage.

BIO: Karen Kruse Thomas, PhD has served as the staff historian of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health since 2012. Her books include Deluxe Jim Crow: Civil Rights and American Health Policy (2012) and Health and Humanity: A History of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, 1935-1985 (2016). She is currently writing a history of the Bloomberg School since 1985. Her work has been supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and has received the Journal of Southern History's best article prize and the American Association of the History of Medicine's best graduate essay prize.
