The Trans-
Siberian Express:
Russia by
Private Train
from Vladivostok
to Moscow
July 13 - 29, 2008
with Professor Bruce Parrott
All aboard!
Join fellow alumni and study leader Dr. Bruce Parrott, Professor and Director of Russian and Eurasian Studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, on a survey of the remarkable country of Russia. This adventure by private train carries you comfortably across the country's midsection, all the way from the booming port city of Vladivostok to the very center of metropolitan Moscow.
Ride the world-famous Trans-Siberian Railway on a journey that explores fascinating Russian places like great Lake Baikal, the deepest and most ancient lake on earth; Ulan Ude, with its native Buryat people and communities of orthodox Old Believers; and cultured Irkutsk, where many of the exiled Decembrists made their homes. Drop down into Mongolia for a taste of its capital city, UlaanBaatar, before heading back up to Russia. Stop in Novosibirsk, the industrial center of Siberia; Ekaterinburg in the Urals, where the last czar and his family were executed; and multiethnic Kazan on the Volga River. Finish with two days in magnificent Moscow, an 850-year-old city with an up-to-the-minute attitude.
