Who can apply for a Student Services Grant?
Organizers of projects promoting student involvement may apply for funding. Grants are awarded for the specific projects as described in the application and are not transferable without the approval of the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association. Funding for projects that involve only one student will not be considered.
Funding Guidelines
The maximum amount for a funding request is $1,500.
Applicants must be enrolled as students at one of the nine schools of the University during the period of the project. Seniors are eligible for grants during the summer immediately following graduation.
A project that is a required part of the curriculum and/or is receiving academic credit is NOT eligible for funding.
Only volunteer projects are available. Any project for which participating students will receive wages, salaries, or a stipend is NOT eligible for funding.
All projects must have a faculty or administrative monitor. Peers and/or persons with no University affiliation cannot be project monitors.
The Grants Committee encourages programs that foster cross-divisional participation.
Preference will be given to those applicants who seek other sources for funding.
Two progress reports must be submitted to the Alumni Association during the semester for which a project is approved: a mid-point report and a final report within two weeks of the completion of the event, project or program. Each report should be limited to no more than one typed page and should include the project name and a succinct description of the project’s status. Attach a separate sheet itemizing how the Alumni Association’s funds were used. The final report should address the following issues:
• Achievement of the proposed goals
• Description of the completed project
• Impact the project had on the student personally and on the sponsoring organization and/or individuals
• Copies of pamphlets, handouts, posters or photos (including banner photos) that acknowledge the Alumni Association’s support
• Photos of the project and participants, if possible
Program/project grantees must publicize relevant activities through their divisional alumni office and divisional publications. The Alumni Association must be acknowledged on all materials at the event.
If the group requests funding on a recurring basis, the Committee will review such applications with preference given to those who show evidence of receiving additional funding from "outside" sources.
The Committee does NOT fund living or travel expenses, honoraria, stipends or catering.
All requested documentation and signatures must be included with the application for consideration.
