"Connect the Docs"

What is "Connect the Docs?"

"Connect the Docs" is a program that matches alumni of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine with recent graduates as they begin the early stages of their postgraduate training. This program provides a friendly face, a source of information, and a point of contact at your residency location. The pilot program, begun in 2004, targeted alumni at six medical institutions across the country where a concentrated number of Hopkins students had matched. Since then, the program has grown, and the Alumni Relations office has been successful in matching over 160 students at 103 institutions nationwide.

Why should I participate in "Connect the Docs?"

"Connect the Docs" is a program that connects a student who is about to graduate from the School of Medicine with a Hopkins alumnus who currently works at the institution where the student has matched. The volunteer will try to help ease the transition from life as a student to life as a resident by serving as a point of contact and a voice of welcome for the graduating student.

"The obvious thrust of this program is to facilitate the adaptation of a recent Hopkins medical graduate to a new professional environment. For two Hopkins Grand Classes members it is a stimulating and inspiring experience to meet and come to know a newly minted physician... It is a privilege to be involved in this project that reinforces one’s faith in the durable mystique that is Hopkins."
— Peg and Rollins Hanlon MD’44 and MD’38 (Alumni Volunteers)
"My match has contacted me with a warm invitation to dinner at his house; I am looking forward to this very much. Furthermore, he has taken the time to introduce me to an intern who will start Ophthalmology residency in two months."
— Peter Chang MD‘05 (Student Participant)
