Host Top 5 Questions

Am I expected to house a student?
No, you are not obligated to provide lodging or overnight accommodations.

Is there a financial obligation on my part as host?
In no way are hosts expected to offer financial support.

Can I host a student if I am single?
Absolutely. We welcome you as a host without regard to your household status.

Can I request to host a student of specific nationality?
Yes. We strive to match hosts and students based on what each seeks; school division, ethnic background and religion.

How much interaction will I have with my host student?
You can extend hospitality in many ways, including holiday dinners, family outings, day trips, and informal meals. The number of activities involving students is entirely up to you.

Hosts provide much appreciated hospitality to new students of all academic divisions of the University. The number of activities involving students is entirely up to you. Some hosts enjoy helping students find their way around Baltimore.

We have found that some international students feel more comfortable, at least initially, if there is another student in the group. If you would prefer an international student, please consider hosting two.
