How to Play Fantasy Reunion 2012

Object of the game

The object of the game is to select a team of alumni who will register for Alumni Weekend 2012 and, through several basic activities, will add points to your team. The prize winners are those alumni who pick teams that accumulate the most points before the end of the game.

Who can play

To be eligible for a Fantasy Reunion team, you must have graduated from Johns Hopkins University and be planning to attend Alumni Weekend 2012.

How the game works

  1. Selecting a team: To play the game, you pick and submit a team of 15 fellow alumni with whom you share a common Hopkins experience. You automatically become the 16th team member.
  2. Earning points: You will be awarded points when the alumni you chose for your team register for Alumni Weekend 2012 or make a gift to Johns Hopkins. Points will be tallied by the Reunion & Homecoming Office. You will be notified of your team’s total as well as your team’s place in the overall standings via a weekly email.
  3. Winning prizes: The Grand Prize winner will be the graduate whose team members have accrued the most points when the game concludes on Saturday, April 21. Second and third prizes will be awarded to the next-highest finishers. Additional prizes will be awarded to the participating graduate of each reunion class whose picks have amassed the highest number of points from their reunion class. The three Fantasy Reunion 2012 overall winners are not eligible for the class prizes.

The rules of the game

  1. All teams must be submitted to the Reunion & Homecoming Office via the website alumni.jhu.edu/fantasyreunion.
  2. You must provide a valid email address. The Reunion & Homecoming Office will use this to send you your team confirmation and your weekly score updates.
  3. Teams consist of a maximum of 16 members. The maximum number of members you may pick for your team is 15. You automatically become your team’s 16th member.
  4. You must provide, to the best of your knowledge, the correct name and JHU class year for each alum you pick for your team. All your team picks must be Hopkins graduates.
  5. You must share at least one common Hopkins-related experience with each of your 15 team members.  Alumni that fit this description may belong to any of the following categories:
    • Roommates
    • Freshman housemates
    • Sophomore floor mates
    • Fraternity brothers
    • Sorority sisters
    • Members of varsity, club and intramural sports teams you were a member of
    • Members of student organizations you were a part of
    • College drinking partners
    • Relatives who graduated from Hopkins
    • Alumni co-workers during student employment
    • Alumni research partners
    • Alumni who share your major
    • Alumni friends, study partners and colleagues
    • Alumni you met after graduation
    • Alumni with whom you share any other Hopkins experience

You may select no more than seven players from any one of any of the above categories.

  6. Points are awarded when each of team member’s Alumni Weekend 2012 registration has been processed by the Reunion & Homecoming Office.
  7. Points you receive from your members’ gifts to Johns Hopkins will be awarded once the gift or pledge has been processed by the Office of Annual Giving.
  8. You can enter more than one team, but you cannot use the same pick on both teams.
  9. Your original team submission is final. You will be able to make changes to your team lineup only if the Reunion & Homecoming Office offers all players a “trade window” while the game is in progress. You and all other players will be notified via email if such a decision is made.
  10. All decisions regarding scoring will be made by Reunion & Homecoming Office and are final.

Important dates and timing issues

  1. The game officially begins as soon as registration opens on Monday, February 6, 2012.
  2. You must pick and register your entire team on or before Sunday, April 8, 2012. Submissions made after this date are ineligible.
  3. The game will run from Monday, February 6, 2012 until Saturday, April 21, 2012. The prize winners will be the alumni whose teams have earned the most points by April 21.

Points and scoring

  1. Your total score: Your total score will be the sum of all the points accumulated by all the eligible alumni you picked for your team.
  2. Points for early registration: One (1) point is awarded to you for each week in advance of the April 21, 2012 deadline your team members register for Alumni Weekend 2012 (see chart).
  3. Date Registration is Processed Points
    April 15-21 1 point
    April 8-14 2 points
    April 1-7 3 points
    March 25-31 4 points
    March 18-24 5 points
    March 11-17 6 points
    March 4-10 7 points
    February 26-March 3 8 points
    February 19-25 9 points
    February 12-18 10 points
    February 5-11 11 points
    Before February 5 12 points
  4. Points for Class Gift participation: The points you receive when one of your team members registers early for Alumni Weekend 2012 will be doubled if that same pick also contributes or pledges to his or her 2012 reunion class gift. In order for you to be awarded these points, the gift must be processed by Johns Hopkins before the game ends on April 21. You will not be penalized if a pick does not make a gift during this period.
  5. Points for out-of-state travel: You will be awarded an extra two (2) points for any of your picks who travel from out of state to attend Alumni Weekend 2012. The Reunion & Homecoming Office will determine whether or not alumni are from out of state based on the home address they list on their registration form.
  6. Score updates: Point tallies for all participants and teams will be updated on a weekly basis. You will be notified of your team’s total as well as your team’s place in the overall standings via a weekly email.
  7. Final scoring: All points will be tallied by the Reunion & Homecoming Office following the close of the game and prior to Alumni Weekend 2012. These totals will be the basis for awarding prizes. All decisions regarding points will be made by the Reunion & Homecoming Office and are final.
  8. Ties: Should two or more teams tie for a top finish, the player who registered their entire team first will be declared the winner. If this fails to resolve the tie, the team with the most contributors towards their reunion class gift will be declared the winner.
