A Message from the President
The past three years has been very exciting for me as the President of the Philadelphia alumni chapter. Our committee has worked diligently to provide opportunities for the over 2,600 alumni in our area to reconnect and stay connected. We have seen increased participation as we have sponsored events to appeal to all alumni regardless of the school affiliation.
Events such as the Andrew Wyeth exhibit at the Philadelphia Art Museum, sharing the exquisite food prepared by Chef Poon for the Chinese New Year, hearing a Hopkins professor discuss Benjamin Franklin during his 300th birthday celebration, or touring the Christmas show at Longwood Gardens this past year have demonstrated the intense interest our alumni have in staying connected to Hopkins. Let me also point out that our Hopkins connection allowed one of our family members to throw out the first ball at our Wilmington Blue Rocks event! One of our alumni is a co-owner of the team; a well kept secret revealed to us at none other than an alumni event at the Iron Hill Brewery in Media.
It has been thrilling to receive your feedback as well. Attending events and having alumni request venues to our committee is exactly what the Hopkins family wants. So, please participate, bring friends and family. Make suggestions for future events to us directly via email at mashaub@comcast.net (put JHU in the subject line), letting a committee member know at an event, or by emailing our Alumni Relations staff liaison Dave Harris at dave.harris@jhu.edu.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you this year and hope that the committee’s commitment toward bringing the Hopkins experience to Philadelphia can enrich your lives and fortify your relationship to Hopkins.
