Bridge 5

Class of 2010 FAQs

How can I benefit from this program?
You hold a wealth of information that is valuable to the 2015s and represent the perfect in between – you are close enough to their experience to be able to identify, but also older enough to be able to offer insight and life experience. The Bridge5 program provides you the opportunity to stay connected to your alma mater in a very personal and meaningful way, by playing a role in the lives of Hopkins’ current students. No matter where you have ended up beyond your own time as an undergraduate, this is your opportunity to remain a part of the institution and give back in ways that make a big difference. Additionally, the Bridge5 program will also provide you with new ways to stay connected to your own class of 2010.

How does this work? What am I supposed to do?
The first step for you is to decide if you want to be involved. If the answer is yes, there are a variety of things you can do to connect with your Bridge Class. Very informally, whenever you have the opportunity to meet 2015s, introduce yourself and let them know that you’re a member of their Bridge Class. There will periodically be Bridge5 events on campus that we would love to have you attend if you’re available. Additionally, the Bridge5 website will serve as a hub of information for you to find ways to offer yourself as a resource to the 2015s. If you are interested in participating in the program in any capacity, please contact Tricia Shalka or Stephen Walsh.

How do I get involved at a distance?
The class of 2010 is spread all over the country and world and we recognize that not everyone can make the trip back to Baltimore on a regular basis to connect with students. The Bridge5 program gives you the flexibility of connecting with students in person or virtually. Keep an eye on the Bridge5 website (alumni.jhu.edu/bridge5) for opportunities to connect with the 2015s and/or contact Tricia Shalka or Stephen Walsh about how they can help get you connected and involved.

What do I have to offer the 2015s?
Not that long ago, you were arriving on campus for your first days as a student. You can probably remember many of the ups and downs you had as you adjusted to your new life as a college student. Your insights and advice about this period of time are invaluable to your Bridge Class. Imagine how much help it would have been to you to have a Bridge Class to answer all your random questions and help you figure out your personal and career goals as you moved through your time at Hopkins. That’s exactly what you can offer the 2015s.

How much time will I need to dedicate to being involved in this program?
The time commitment is entirely up to you. You can return to Bridge5 events on campus, make yourself available as a resource to 2015s via our website (alumni.jhu.edu/bridge5), or even seek to build connections with 2015s that you meet on your own. As the program grows, there will be a number of more active leadership opportunities to further its progress.

What types of activities can I expect?
The Bridge5 program will help you to connect with members of your Bridge Class (the 2015s) through a variety of one-on-one and larger group activities. Keep an eye on the Bridge5 website (alumni.jhu.edu/bridge5) for upcoming events and opportunities for you to connect with students virtually. Some events for this upcoming year may include the following: a special luncheon over Young Alumni Weekend, support for the class before their first finals period, opportunities to connect with students over intercession, spring fair events, and receptions over Homecoming/Reunion weekend.
