Networking Skills“How Does Your [Career] Garden Grow?” Today's leadership conference not only marks a first for Johns Hopkins University's Women in Business Affinity Group but also the first full day of Spring. What better way to begin the conference and the season than thinking about how to plant seeds and cultivate one's career? Today's opening experience provides you with an opportunity to deepen your distinctions around "networking" - what it means in today's world and what it requires of you in terms of your behaviors and activities. The conference today will then provide some fertile ground for practice in anticipation of the professional planting season that begins "tomorrow." |

Re-Invention“Intentional Career and Life Design: A Vision-Inspired Method” Too often, and for many different reasons, we find that we are pushing ourselves through life and work hoping that we’ll recognize the perfect career when we find it. In the process, we design our lives around the work we have rather than designing our work around the lives we want. Stepping fully into your vision of the life you desire and the contributions you know you must make, a funny thing happens. The pull of your vision replaces the push of your search. Energy and excitement replace fatigue and disconnect. Each choice becomes a conscious choice - each action turns your vision into reality. Session led by Elizabeth Lilley, Bus '94, Chief Perspective Officer, Sonata Venture Solutions, LLC |
Negotiation“The Art of Negotiation for Women: In a Man’s World” Amy Venuto, Executive Director, Professional Baseball for Ripken Baseball will share her personal experiences about negotiation in a male-dominated industry and lead a discussion exploring strategies for and creation of a set of rules for holding your own and pushing back to realize what you want and deserve. |
Leadership“Radical Pragmatism: Skills for Leading into the Future” Skill-sets which include initiative, autonomy, collaboration, transparency, sharing, and empowerment will be considered as vital and necessary components of any future organizational system. This discussion will concentrate on challenging your thinking about the value of current leadership practices. You will look beyond your current capabilities to take your skill sets to the next level and gain insights into enhancing a specific personal ability. You will develop action steps toward envisioning, enabling, and energizing on the most important things that matter to you and your organization. Session led by Rick Milter, Professor, Johns Hopkins Carey Business School |
